The Intelabe EP1080-A is a popular air purifier and is also very inexpensive. While the manufacturer claims that this air purifier can be used for rooms as large as 210 square feet, I would advise readers to not use it for rooms bigger than 100 square feet. The air purification is not verified and there is no guarantee that the particulate filtration is HEPA standard.
In terms of features, this Intelable air purifier has a built-in air diffuser which can be used for diffusing the aroma of essential oils in your room. There is also a filter change indicator light which lights up when it is time to replace the combination filter. Finally, since this air purifier uses purely mechanical filters, there is no Ozone released unlike air purifiers that have on-board ionizers that release small amounts of Ozone.
Reasons to Buy
The three stage air purification on this Intelabe air purifier includes an anti-bacterial layer which will reduce the incidence of viruses and bacteria in your home. This is one of the advantages of this low cost air purifier. In addition, for its price, the features of having a filter replacement indicator and a fragrance diffuser are useful. Without an ionizer, there is also no danger of this air purifier releasing any Ozone.
Things to be aware of
A glaring omission in terms of air purification on this Intelabe air purifier is the lack of an Activated Carbon filter. Activated Carbon is used to filter out odors and other gaseous pollutants. Without this component present in the air purifier, you will not be protected against air pollutants like Sulphur Oxides, Nitrogen oxides and other. While the on-board fragrance diffuser will help in spreading aromas of any essential oils you put into it, the air purifier itself will not be able to remove any odors present in your room.
The air purification on the Intelabe air purifier is not verified and their claims of being able to clean the air in rooms as large as 210 square feet are dubious.

Value for Money
For air purification, the Intelabe air purifier uses a single combination filter that has three different air purification layers.
The three layers of air purification on the Intelabe air purifier filter ares
- Antibacterial cloth
- HEPA like filter
The job of the pre-filter is to capture large pollutants like dust, lint, hair and fur present in the air. This ensures that these large pollutants do not go further into the air purifier where they can clog up the other filters. The next filtration layer is the anti-bacterial cloth. This cloth traps any germs like bacteria and viruses present in the air and prevents them from going any further. This is a unique filtration process seen in the Intelabe air purifier and is not found on many other brands.
The last filtration layer is the HEPA like filter which removes fine particulate pollutants like dust, dander, pollen, mites and ragweed present in the air. HEPA stands for High Efficiecny Particulate Air Delivery. HEPA is an international standard of air purification and the Intelabe filter does not meet these specifications.
Air Flow and Certifications
Intelabe states that this air purifier is capable of air purification in rooms as large as 210 square feet. We find this claim dubious, especially since it is not backed up any certification. The company does not even provide the air flow produced by this device. I would advise readers to not use this air purifier for rooms larger than 100 square feet.
The most common and most widely accepted certification for air purifiers in the USA is the AHAM Verified certificate. AHAM is the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers which awards the AHAM Verified certificate after standardized testing of an air purifier. This test measures the performance of an air purifier against common air pollutants and provides the maximum room size that the device can be used in.
Intelabe’s air purifier is not AHAM Verified and does not have Energy Star certification either.
Features and Usability
Controls on the Intelabe air purifier are via a single button on the device. This button acts as both the power button as well as the fan speed button. Pressing the button once switches on the air purifier on its lowest speed. Pressing the button again cycles it through its different fan speeds and then switches it off.
This air purifier comes with the built-in feature of also being an aroma diffuser. At the top of the air purifier is a small removable panel which has a sponge inside. You can infuse this sponge with an essential oil. When clean air comes out of the air purifier, it passes through the sponge and carries the aroma of the oil along with it.
There is also a filter indicator light which comes on after the air purifier has been used for 2000 hours. The light can be reset by pressing and holding the power button.
Filter Replacement and Warranty
With the filter replacement indicator, you will know as soon as the filter on the Intelabe air purifier needs to be replaced. The indicator will come on after 2000 hours of usage. With 8 hours of daily usage, this translates to about 8 months. If you use the air purifier for 12 hours everyday, it will last for about 6 months.
The replacement filter costs about 45% of the cost of a new air purifier. This means that every year you will end up spending as much as it costs to buy a new air purifier. This is quite expensive.
Intelabe provides a 1 year warranty on this air purifier.
Design and Dimensions
The Intelabe air purifier has a circular base and stands just under 10 feet tall. The base measures 6 inches across and the entire unit weighs just over 3 pounds. This is a very compact and lightweight air purifier and can be used for your work desk as well.
The design of the air purifier is such that the air inlet is on the lower half of the air purifier and clean air comes out from the top.
The Intelabe air purifier is one of the many brands available today which are available for very low prices. For the low price however, you do not get guaranteed air purification. Their claim of cleaning rooms as large as 210 square feet is most definitely false. While you might have to spend a little bit more money, I would advise getting an air purifier with certified air purification instead of this Intelabe device.
