Update on Version 2.0: The latest version, which has been released back in March 2020, is known as Medify MA-40 V2.0. In the newer version 2.0, Medify Air removed the particle sensor (PM2.5) and the automatic feature since they found it is ineffective. Rather than sensing the whole room, it only counts particles nearby the air purifier and controls the fan speed based on it when it sets on auto mode.

Medify Ma-40 2.0 is a sleek and modern air purifier with H13 true HEPA filtration technology. The compact body is made with high-quality plastic with a glossy finish, which feels very premium by touch.

Frontside: The front panel has a large air vent where the fresh air comes out and the Medify Air branding. The air quality indicator light has been removed from the upgraded 2.0 model.Medify MA-40 Air Purifier back with cover open and filter set

Backside: On the backside, there is a large air inlet and a carrying handle. The Air inlet has a removable cover for filter installment. As the filters are included in a single package, it is very convenient to install or replace the compact filter.

In-depth Review of Medify MA-40 V2.0:

H13 True HEPA Filtration

Medify MA-40 comes with an H13-grade HEPA filter, which is a high-grade particulate filter. The H13 class HEPA filter’s standard efficiency is 99.95% at 0.12 – 0.25 microns (MPPS). It can capture tiny air pollutants like pollen, household dust, mold spores, microorganisms, and smoke particles. Medify claims their filter can remove 99.9% of particles that are sized down to 0.1 microns.

Activated Carbon Filter

The activated carbon filter will help to absorb VOCs and odors from the air. They didn’t mention the activated carbon substances’ total surface area or amount, but it looks thick, which is suitable for remove odors, VOCs, and some gases.

Also, the compact filter includes a pre-filter layer to protect the primary HEPA filter.

The compact 3-in-1 filter is easy to install or replace. However, the combined filter set has some downsides. As you know, the activated carbon filter got saturated quickly than the HEPA filter, so the odor filter’s performance will lower after a couple of months’ usage.

The filter has 3000 hours of life, which is excellent. But the filter replacement cost per year is a bit higher.

Another downside of the combined filter is the pre-filters are not washable. Although, you can clean the filter surface gently to remove pet hair, dust, and lints. The filter set needs to be replaced every six months or 3000hrs of usage.

Anion Filtration

The unit has a negative ion generator in addition to its air its filtration arrangement. However, it is optional, and using it will give the air purifier some boost (usually increase the CADR by 8%) in the air cleaning rate. Ionizer produces a small amount of ozone. However, the unit is ozone-safe and CARB approved.

However, you shouldn’t use the feature if someone has asthma or breathing difficulties at home.

Coverage, CADR, and ACH

The CADR of Medify MA-40 2.0 is 330 cubic meter per hour (m3/h) or 194 cubic feet per minute (cfm), which is capable of cleaning a large room of 800 square feet with 2 air changes per hour (ACH) or 400 square feet with 4 air changes per hour. This moderate CADR level is good enough for medium to large-sized rooms.

Noise

You will get a noise level of 66 decibels on the highest fan speed, which is not the quitter. For reference, the average sound level of a vacuum cleaner is 70 decibels.

On the lowest fan speed setting, it’s around 46 decibels, but the performance (CADR) will drop. However, from the noise level perspective, this is not a quieter air purifier.

Control

The glass-top touch screen control panel is very convenient to use and feels premium to touch. The starting sound is charming. It has 3 manual fan speeds. You can manually turn ON or OFF the Anion, which generates ions to capture particles. A downside is it has no remote or app control features.

Night Mode

It has a night mode that activates the dark environment. Night mode only actives if the automatic mode turns on. All indicator lights turn off on the night mode except the power and front air quality display indicator. The fan runs low on night mode.

Child lock

Child lock is another useful feature for preventing any unwanted button pressing on touch. You need to press the button for 30-45 secs to deactivating the child lock, which is kind of annoying.

Warranty

Another great thing about this mid-range air purifier is you will get a lifetime service warranty from the manufacturer. To claim the warranty, you must have to use the original replacement filter and replace it on every 3000hrs of usage.

Certifications

The air purifier doesn’t have an AHAM verification seal. However, it is Energy Star certified and CARB approved.
