Filter

The Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H model is present in European distribution. The letter H at the end means that the product has a better filter. The flap on the back hides a new type of cylindrical filter. It has graphite color and was introduced to the offer only this year. This is the only high-end HEPA H13 filter in the Xiaomi offer.

It consists of the following filter layers:

  1. Initial PET – traps larger impurities (e.g. hair, fur, dust, food crumbs).
  2. HEPA H13 – stops bacteria, spores of fungi and mites, mold, pollen and PM2.5 and PM10 suspended dust (the main components of smog).
  3. Carbon – Removes formaldehyde, unpleasant odors, cigarette smoke and volatile organic compounds.

At the moment I have not found a store that has this filter model in stock, but this should change over time. It is certain that it will be more expensive than its predecessors (probably around PLN 200). I suppose that, like them, he should have a maximum of two heating seasons.

If someone has a supply of filters for earlier versions, the good news is that they will also be compatible with the latest Xiaomi product.

The purifier has an RFID reader that recognizes the original filters. In addition, the filter is pressed from the bottom with the spring to the upper seal, which prevents leaks and deterioration of the quality of air filtration.

Application

Adding a purifier to your smartphone application is not necessary to use it, but it’s worth doing it. The Xiaomi Home app provides the following functionalities for our purifier:

  • Turning on and off.
  • Preview of PM2.5 sensors indications, temperature, humidity, filter wear.
  • Change of operating mode.
  • Change the display brightness or turn it off.
  • Parental Control.
  • Notification sound.

With the help of the application you can control the device even when away from home. For example, we can turn on the purifier just before leaving work to have clean air in the apartment when we return.

One of the most interesting possibilities of the Xiaomi Home application is the creation of automatic rules for devices connected to it. In the case of Mi Air Purifier 2S intended for the European market, this functionality was unfortunately disabled. Fortunately, in the latest model of purifier, the manufacturer gave us the opportunity to automate. In the screenshots below you will see what information can be used to trigger rules and what can be done with them. In addition to these triggers, you can also call rules manually or set them to the desired time. I will give some examples:

  • If PM2.5 lower than 10, turn off the purifier.
  • If PM2.5 higher than 20, enable and set automatic mode.
  • At 23: Switch 00 to night mode.
  • At 9:00 off
  • Set the button to change the modes of all purifiers in the home to manual (e.g. maximum before returning home).

It is a pity that the list does not include new levels 1 – 3.

Modes of operation

We have available 3 operating modes: Automatic, Night and Manual and new 3: 1 level, 2 level and 3 level (from the weakest to the strongest). Thanks to the new levels, we don’t have to change the power every time with the slider in Manual mode.

Night Mode is extremely quiet and energy-saving, but in return we get very low performance. For it to make sense, it is worth closing the door to limit the air flow from the uncleaned rooms. In addition, remember that this mode is designed for small rooms.

Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H performance test

I tested both models and checked how much time each of them would take to clean the air in an 10 room2 and a height of 2,5 m. The test started with a PM2.5 contamination of 95 and ended when it reached 10. Each purifier was set to its most powerful mode. As expected, the Air Purifier 3H did the job faster. It took him 7 minutes, while for the 2S model – 11 minutes.

It is possible that the result was affected by 45% filter wear in the Air Purifier 2S, however, the manufacturer mentions 30% performance improvement and it can be said that the times obtained in the test confirm this.
